Exciting and somewhat surprising news just dropped as Disney just announced Cinderella Castle will be receiving an enchanted makeover!

Castle Enhancements

The castle will be receiving entirely new paint scheme. The new color scheme is very similar to the paint scheme Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland received in May 2019. According to Disney, the iconic castle will be receiving a striking new look in honor of the 70th anniversary of the Disney classic film “Cinderella”.

Enhancements the castle is set to receive are magical, gleaming, regal details. In the photo provided by Disney, we notice the new design has dominant gold adornments throughout the castle. It appears the castle will be getting an all-new paint job featuring pinks, rose golds, deeps blues, and some gray in the lower portion. This is still subject to change as Disney has not yet finalized the design.

Disney World’s 50th Anniversary

Cinderella Castle is the icon for all of Walt Disney World and has been there since opening in 1971. In 2021 Walt Disney World will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary.

There was a longstanding rumor the castle would be repainted in a rose gold color. This artist concept art shows the design has evolved past a simple one color paint job. Interestingly enough Disney made no mention of the castle makeover in relationship to the 50th anniversary, instead tying it to the 70th anniversary of the Disney Animation classic film “Cinderella”.

As such an iconic set-piece, this move may prove to be a controversial one. 1997 was the last time Disney redesigned the castle, that time for Walt Disney World’s 25th anniversary. Now famously ridiculed as the “Pepto-Bismol Castle”, most fans did not end up enjoying that makeover. This one is much more tasteful but will be interesting how guests perceive it. On a personal note, I love the new design!

Cinderella Castle Redesign Timeline

Disney has stated work will begin very soon – as in the next couple of weeks soon. With work continuing throughout summer. Cinderella Castle is one of the most photographed landmarks in the entire world so Disney will only be working on construction during the night. However, cranes and scaffolding will most likely be visible during the day until the makeover is complete. Both night time firework and castle stage shows shows such as “Happily Ever After” and “Mickey’s Royal Friendship Faire” will still be shown during the makeover.

What do you think of the re-imagined Cinderella Castle? Is it better than the 25th anniversary castle? Let us know in the comments below or on Twitter!
